Somewhere Out There: Quality inverter, sized right for vehicle use

Wanted a good quality pure sine wave inverter to keep in a car, one that could dependably charge electronics and other devices needing household type AC current. My wife had a small inverter, but it wasn t pure sine wave, and some of her gear didn t respond well, so we got the Samlex. 150 watts isn t much in the grand scheme of things, but it s about all most auto 12v auxilary sockets can handle and 150 watts is even a stretch for some . Of course, the inverter only pulls enough power, creates enough AC electricity, to power what s plugged in, so we ve probably only used a portion of the inverter s rated capacity. It s a quality unit. Using a Kill-a-Watt device our Samlex shows AC power output at around 121 volts, with power frequency in the 59.9 to 60 Hertz range. Good, steady power. We ve had our original unit for two years, and recently bought a another to keep in a second vehicle. The unit is a bit bigger than those of some competitors for pure sine wave interverters with similar capacity, but I suspect the Samlex is more heavy duty than those offered by some competitors.
