I bought this in person at a local hardware store. I have put both tools to work in a professional environment within hours after purchasing and am very impressed with their performance. I also own the gen1 version but I don t ever use the gen1 tools because of their sizes. Most of my 18v tools are smaller with the exception of the slide pack batteries. This gen2 kit on the other hand has been getting well used because of the compact size and light weight. They re extremely fast and powerful in comparison to any other 12v tools. I own Hilti and Bosch 12v tools like these and also the gen1 m12 fuel and use all of them for my business. The head of this drill is nearly identicle in size spec weight from the manufacturer websites list the 18v Bosch is slightly heavier but it s actually lighter with 2.0 batts on both tools to my 18v bosch dds183 drill driver wich is of course faster, stronger, includes anti-kickback and also has a better electronic clutch but the 18v battery is more bulky. I chose the hammer drill version of this kit because the gen2 drill driver, like the gen1, is the exact same length and weight whether it has the hammer function or not. I don t really use hammer drills for masonry since I have rotary hammers for that task but it is quite handy to have on hand in case I m ever surprised on an installation project with a plaster or cement block wall, ceiling or floor. The electronic clutch is an exceptional feature and I consider it a huge improvement compared to a mechanical clutch. The lowest setting is 1 and seems to quickly taper off the power as the max torque is reached for the respective setting. The clutch does however, seem to be speed sensitive and if spinning a 6, screw at full speed could strip the substrate even on the lowest clutch setting whereas keeping the rpm low this wouldn t happpen. The clutch thrives when fastening 8 and above fasteners but can strip out wood substrate when driving 8 screws at full trigger pull even on the lowest clutch setting. Lower rpm driving solves this problem. When the trigger is fully depressed it can take the clutch too long to stop power at high rpm. The lower the clutch setting the longer it takes as it ramps up rpm to match the how far the trigger is depressed. This is a very nice feature for starting drilling and for fasteners alike. It seems to handle and smaller masonry drilling well, and surprisingly well for a 12v tool. It is much quieter than the gen1 when drilling masonry. The chuck on mine is pretty concentric and doesn t have any excessive play as some hammer drill chucks. I happen to find the handles on these tools slightly less comfortable than the gen1 fuel drivers but not much less. The gen1 has more pronounced contours and has a slightly more slender handle near the top. The impact driver has 650 more rpm two additional control settings and 100 in. lb. more torque than it s predecessor. The impact driver also has an electronic clutch on setting 1 and on self drilling screw setting. It will stop impacting after it reaches a certain torque on self drilling mode and on setting one will stop impacting after one or two hits . I like the way both tools are programmed for the electronic controls for speed, torque and clutch. I use modular tool box systems so I like the bag this comes with rather than a blow molded case. I don t find blow molded cases to be a very efficient use of storage space in comparison and never use them. The bag is well constructed and appears to be durable. I don t find the fit and finish on these tools to be bad, the aesthetic is very tough and looks really cool but it s a little more poor than the sleek and understated Bosch and Hilti tools I m comparing them to. The ergonomics are nice for my hands with the exception of the grip directly under the trigger area being a pressure point in comparison to the rest of the grip. After extended use the dramatic contour on the handle under the trigger is noticeable on the inside 2nd finger joint for whichever respective finger is gripping that area and I have ended up shaving down some sharp plastic at the tool body joint under the trigger. The head angle on both of these tools is a great feature and they both feel great in hand during use. I m happy that I upgraded from my dusty gen1 kit with these. I hope to see this form factor with a hex chuck screwdriver drill soon. I hope this is helpful.Read full 287 ratings for Milwaukee Electric Tools 2598-22 M12 Fuel 2 Pc Kit- 1 2 Hammer Drill 1 4 Impact at Amazon Reviews
