Customer reviewsRun time, dust extraction, Cordless Not competitive against Flexvolt unit w remote switch
I don t have any other AWS tools so I am unable to comment on that specific feature just yet. As soon as I can do so, I will update this review. I do hope that Makita will release a universal aws switch that could be installed on tools that don t have that feature and that s why I purchased the aws option even though I don t have any aws tools. It is a gamble for me in the hope that Makita will release a universal aws switch. I do find it extremely easy to keep the unit on the floor near where I m working and I can easily use my foot to turn it on and off by tapping the large power switch on the top front. It s far more convenient that using a hand and bending down to activate and de-activate the vac. This kit comes with two different hoses and two adapters plus the components that make up the floor nozzle and wand. The larger diameter hose is shorter in length and designed to work with the floor adapter. I didn t think I d use it much but it turns out to get about 50 of my use. The long and very flexible hose is a smaller diameter and works great with dust ports on power tools. One of the adapters works perfectly with my cordless makita sander and the existing hose fitting works with my makita routers and the different bases they have without need of an adapter. With he router plunge base and it s dust port adapter, the collector doesn t get much of the larger chips but does pull the fine dust up. It works much better with tape over the opening on the plunge base. The fixed base dust port works much better with the dust collection on the router. I use it most with my cordless makita track saw and my dewalt cordless track saw. With both of these I usually tape over the openings on the side of the saws that are designed to access the blade bolts for blade changes. When using a rip blade or most any blade for that matter, this dust collector works as expected for 74cfm. It will leave a very small amount of the larger chips as will most dust collectors but at 74cfm it isn t as good as a corded dust collector. It will collect the fine particles well and will collect the majority of the chips from wood cutting. This is where I keep the floor wand handy and use it between cuts to quickly clean the material I m cutting if there s anything left on it and to clean the cut table. I keep a layer of foam board insulation on my cut table to aid the dust collection. Even corded dust collection isn t perfect so overall I m very happy with the cordless convenience fo this tool. It is quite small and easy to transport. For 74cfm it is expensive but for cordless at 74cfm it s understandable. The unit is very easy to clean and came with about 10 extra bags. I have been reusing the original bag. The self cleaning happens when the unit is shut off and it works well. There s a cloth filter that pulls up to the foam filter and springs outward and back into it s hanging shape once the unit s motor is stopping and this cloth filter also performs like a reuseable bag. All of the parts are easy to clean and work well together. The dust liners install easily and are easy to remove for emptying and then replace. The manual is easy to understand and the vac is easy to unbox and begin using without much of a learning curve. For the floor wand, I find that turning the dial to medium or toward the low end is usually plenty. For dust collection, I prefer all the way up for everything. The unit is extremely quiet. It s also great to have around for drilling Sheetrock, or setting E-Z self drill type anchors in drywall. The power level is a dial type and so is the power setting. The power setting has 3 options for which it can be positioned. Off, on and on with auto aws enabled . I hope I get to use the aws setting some day. I believe that no contractor will ever replace their entire collection of tools for Makita s slim selection of aws enabled tools so I hope to see an adapter or universal aws switch that can be fit onto other tools or at least the tool end of the hose. The wheels and casters are solid and well built. The back two casters are lockable which can be really convenient if using on top of a cut table or transporting the extractor. I definitely have this extractor on my must replace if lost or stolen list. I hope this review is helpful.
